Hello, I’m Orlondo

What is the biggest challenge facing us today?

I believe it is truer representation, and, I’ve got three ideas on how to accomplish this and move us into the 21st century.

My name is Orlondo Avion and I’m a native Coloradan, born into a military family in Sterling. I went to S.A. Wilson, Sproul Junior High and graduated from Widefield.

I remember when you were able to drag race from Constitution to the Academy when there were no traffic lights. I remember when Nevada used to be a cruising street on the weekends and going to Fargo’s after the games.

I attended the Air Force Academy, CU Boulder and graduated from UCCS with an engineering degree.  While going to UCCS, I became a ballroom dance instructor. More about that later. Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to stay in Colorado and, in particular, Colorado Springs. I’ve worked at Quantum, Depuy Synthes, Maxtor, Philips and Johnson & Johnson.

I’m married, with adult children, and have been and am a small business owner.

Where I stand

  • DEMOCRACY

    DEMOCRACY

    I am going to build bridges, not walls. I am going to seek solutions. Our political system is broken; gerrymandering, winner takes all, first past the pole, spoiler votes. I am interested in installing Ranked Choice Voting (RCV), Multi-Member Districts (MMD) and Proportional Voting Power (PPV). These three ideas, like the legs of a tripod, can encourage cooperation and save our democracy.

    HEALTHCARE

    I believe Mental Health is one of the most important challenges facing us today. I believe we’ve got to balance healthcare with security and fill peoples lives with health instead of filling jails.

  • MILITARY

    MILITARY

    As a part of a military family, I care not only about the women and men who serve our country, but also the spouses and children who support them. I believe we need a coalition to support veterans and their families.

  • EQUALITY

    EQUALITY

    We are all one. At the end of the day, we’re all Pikes Peakans, Coloradoans, Americans. I believe everyone should have an equal opportunity to pursue Happiness, Life and Liberty.

  • CLIMATE CRISIS

    CLIMATE CRISIS

    The climate crisis is real. We can see how things are changing. Two decades ago, Colorado would get at least three major snowstorms every winter. I remember when you could count on it to snow by Halloween and reminding my kids their costumes would have to fit over their jackets. Now, we’re wearing shorts in January. We didn’t used to fires. This is why I will vote for renewable energy.

    I support creating a social network to support persons in need of basic adulting skills.

  • EDUCATION

    EDUCATION

    Education is the key to lifting people up and providing a sustainable future for people. As our world moves from fossil fuels to renewable energy, from analog to digital, from local to global, we’ve must prepare to live in that world. I support providing educational pipelines,so persons can know they’ll have a job waiting for them at the end of their education.

  • ECONOMIC RESPONSIBILITY

    ECONOMIC RESPONSIBILITY

    I believe in taxing the rich. Anyone making more than 1 million dollars a year should pay a flat tax rate to the government in some verifiable way. People to do not get rich without the help of others and it should be proportionate. I believe in providing for a standard living allotment and a standard living wage.

I want to further Democratic values,

but what is the definition of insanity? It is repeating the same action and expecting a different result. That’s why I want to install three solutions into our broken political process.

What do these ideas solve?

  • First Past the Post.

  • Winner Takes All

  • Gerrymandering. And.

  • Costly Runoffs.

RCV, alone, could have saved this city a million dollars in the most recent mayoral elections.
